Gloucester is working to rebuild and update our city's school facilities. Currently our highest priority project is rebuilding the East Gloucester and Veterans' Memorial Schools into a modern, state of the art facility that will serve our city's children for the next 50 or more years. Partnering with the Massachusetts School Building Authory (MSBA), this project has completed the site selection, feasibility, and schematic design phases. The MSBA will vote on funding this project on August 26. Gloucester is working to rebuild both of these schools because students and teachers are working in outdated, undersized and inferior buildings that are both more than 60 years old. (East Gloucester is more than 70 years old!). Gloucester has been working to update its school facilities since 2002. On this site you will find the most recent updates and history of the project, a timeline for next steps, the full design for the new school, and links to all the work that has been done dating back to 2016 when the city submitted a Statement of Interest to the MSBA for this school building project.
