Tonight's School Building Committee meeting was an interactive visioning workshop with project architects and designers. Building Committee members and the public were invited to view a series of "vision boards" and give feedback on a variety of images. This sparked conversation to begin defining design directions for the new school building, to ensure that the final design reflects the values, history and unique qualities of the community, in addition to meeting our students' educational needs. Some key points raised in discussion included: creating an entryway that establishes the "vibe" of the school; building a pleasing and beautiful outdoor landscape that is easy to maintain; inclusion of natural and sustainable materials; open, light-filled spaces that spark big ideas; a space that welcomes the entire community, and many more. Minutes will be available after next month's committee meeting, currently scheduled for January 16. The building site traffic study is underway and will be completed in mid-January.
The School Building Committee will convene next on December 16, 2019 from 4:30-6:30 at West Parish School. The meeting will involve an update on the project budget and timeline, as well as a Visioning Workshop led by the project architects to begin developing a shared vision for a new school. Meeting agenda is attached here.
